In class we discussed the border theory that Gloria Azaldua wrote about. “Borders are set up to define the places that are safe and unsafe, to distinguish us from them (Gloria Azaldua).” Although Gloria’s passage targeted the Mexicans race, it can also be applied to any minority race. Minorities are discriminated against socially in many different parts of the world; more specifically, African Americans.
Throughout the course we will focus on argumentation with the subject of Afro-cultures. The purposes of this course it to learn to persuade and bring about action through your argument. The key to persuading an audience is research and having your own voice to say exactly how you feel about a topic. Also, in order to create a good argument you must know the opposing argument which links back to doing good research.
We will be taking an interdisciplinary approach on the above information. The Interdisciplinary approach is the ideal of taking a broad or vague topic that is too complex to explain through one discipline and explaining through two or more disciplines. When dealing with interdisciplinary writing you must be careful not to mix up the writing with different types of discipline writing such as: multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, etc. Though we covered interdisciplinary writing in English 002, this time around it will be a bit different because of the incorporation of writing an argument.
